What is the Purpose of Compression Garments?

---Compression garments are used to help prevent further occurences with such medical conditions as :

Phlebitis

Edema

Thrombosis

Compression garments exert more pressure in order to reduce the diameter of the veins in question. These garments use a stronger elastic to create a more significant pressure. This pressure begins at the ankle and becomes less constrictive at the knee and thighs.

Wearing knee length compression garments help prevent blood clots, and can also be used for ulcer treatment.

Types of Compression Garments:

Anti-Embolism Garments: also known as TED hose. These stockings are used to provide distributed pressure to the ankle and throughout the leg. This helps with the drainage from the veins and lymphatic system of the leg.

Gradient Compression Garments:  Used to remedy various problems with the veins in the leg. Doctors recommend these garments for patients who are prone to blood clots, edema, or persons who stand or sit for long periods of time.

Compression garments are distinguished by classes. Some of these classes may be sold over the counter at retail value, while other require a prescription.
